Words made from letters.
I was given the brief to create a word from my letters that I had created, I chose to use the word paper as it is was the main concept, it doesn't quite form the generic font qualities, seeing as it isn't just a simple black letter, it creates a different look, however as a font, in my opinion does not work as well as it would in a black form, I am not pleased with how the word turned out, however this is due to the letters I did for the alphabet, and taking a letter individually, I like. Fortunately I will not need to be creating any more wording with my own alphabet. There is perhaps development for this design, perhaps just capturing the holes and converting them to one colour would allow me to create a simple font that would not have a background, perhaps if I scanned in my images rather than capturing the shadow.
Word in the environment. The task was to create a 3D word, relating to Paper in a relevant environmental background. I firstly began a mind map, looking at words relating to the environment and paper, once I had a few ideas that I liked I began to sketch out my ideas, I had a brief look at Pinterest, to see if anything could spark new ideas.
I liked the idea of a book and carving into it, but I was already being done by someone else, as I wanted to have a unique and original design, I quite liked the idea of burning a 3D model of letters, after giving materials, I decided that I would create my 3D object using a sponge type material, looking like thick paper.
I did however come to a pause, as the material would give off toxic fumes whilst being in doors as the material was plastic, I decided to burn the material outside, where it would be well ventilated. After the design process of sketching ideas, I decided that burnt tree letters would be ideal for the brief, as it symbolised how the world is burning trees and how it affects the environment. I captured the work whilst the letters were laying against some leaves and twigs, I felt that it gave a great contrast and stood out from the background. Overall I am pleased with my word in the environment.
Handwritten name.We began to write the Alphabet, using lots of different methods, using feathers and sticks, from this I was able to get used to the ink and the equipment I was using, by creating mark making tools from cans I was able to have a tool that could create I strong thick line from the ink.
After experimenting in different style and using different pens, after experimenting with different fonts I was able to come up with a design that I was happy with, after scanning it in and vectorising, to be able to create a vinyl sticker for my sketch book. I am really pleased with how my name turned out, I left the brush strokes in the image, I feel as if it adds more detail and it almosts gives it more depth and life.
Crushed Typography
The task was to fill four A4 pages with crushed packaging drawings, initially I thought that it was a simple task, bit when I began to gather the packaging and started to crumple them, I then saw that it would be quite difficult to sketch, as letters no longer looked as they should of, throughout the sketches.
I wanted to flatten the packaging down so that I could draw the
packaging untouched, so that the words actually looked like words. I wanted to flatten the packaging down so that I could draw the packaging untouched, so that the words actually looked like words.

experimented using ink and pencil, I felt that the ink defined some of the letters and helped add character to the sketches, I had to develop I few of them, adding more tone and detail, as it was quite difficult to make out the image as it was. I think of some of my drawings went quite well, but i found it rather difficult to produce sketches from crumpled packing,
it was almost going against everything that I’ve been taught about letters, I did however quite enjoy the task, despite it being rather challenging it was enjoyable and a bit different from drawing from beautifully written letters.
Hand Written Phrase.
Given the task to produce some text relating to a phrase, gave a lot of opportunities for me to practice my mark making, as well as design style, I began by searching the internet for a quote or phrase that I liked, in the end I came up with my own phrase, I looked up different styles to create phrase, I found that lyric posters gave a lot of inspiration, and I really liked how it was styled, I create my own design for this task, and I hand drew it a couple of times in order to get the best design.
I used a very fine pen to create dead sharp lines creating bold text. This task gave me inspiration for a poster that I was asked to design for an event from the Events Management course, I used the idea of typography as the main key element of the poster, I started off by sketching lots of different ideas, and I created a few different versions before coming to the conclusion of the current design, I edited the fonts on Photoshop to fit the posters style. Overall I am very pleased with it, and so was the team that asked me to create it. I am pleased with how my handwritten phrase turned out, I think the bold ink in a circle really create the image, as it adds more to the piece, I think it’s more eye-catching and really highlights the text as it contrasts against the plain background and the other text.
