Pattern and Texture

Pattern.

I was excited when given this brief, a chance to really experiment, in any medium that I wanted, I didn’t sketch out any ideas that I had for this design, but I created a mind map, highlighting all the paper that would create great texture, and even some ideas on pattern.  I began experimenting with paper, crumpling it up, tearing, and folding.  This then allowed me to have a textured surface which I applied paint to the page, I used a dry brush technique so it would just touch the textured surface, leaving a highlighted edge and exaggerating the textured surface.  I experimented with pattern as well, doing a petal type/rain drop pattern.

I have been experimenting with henna for the past couple of years, and I would like to take this pattern task even further and incorporate some of my henna designs into pattern making.  I enjoyed this opportunity to experiment to create patterns and textures, I was pleased when the following weeks task was to create more textured patterns, I learned some techniques that I used in the following week, my patterns allowed me to create interesting backgrounds for my Exhibition Catalogue, as well as inspiring me to create more for the use of the concept of texture for my catalogue.
